According to a source close to the company, Air India intends to increase its fleet by more than 200 planes over the next five years.

“There isn’t any time. The airline needs to grow quickly. “It’s stepping on the gas,” said the aforementioned source.

He also stated that 70% of the orders would be for narrowbody planes and 30% for widebodies.

Earlier in the day, Christian Scherer, Airbus’ chief commercial officer, stated that the airline is “reorganising itself” under the Tata Group and will consider refurbishing its fleet with new aircraft.
