According to people familiar with the subject, Airbus SE has emerged as the front-runner to secure an aircraft order worth up to $5.5 billion from Jet Airways India Ltd NSE 4.96 percent, cementing the European planemaker’s position in the world’s fastest-growing aviation sector.

The discussions are for A320neo jets and A220 planes, according to the people, who asked not to be identified since the discussions are confidential. According to the sources, Boeing Co. and Embraer SA are also in talks, although no final decision has been made. Although any transaction would cost more than $5 billion at sticker price, discounts are frequent in such large purchases.
